Coalition for ICD-10 issues statement on House SGR vote
The Coalition for ICD-10 applauds Congress for permanently addressing the Sustainable Growth Rate, which has been a significant concern for physicians and the entire healthcare industry for many years. We greatly appreciate that H.R. 2 does not include a delay to ICD-10 adoption and strongly urge that any amendment to delay ICD-10 remain out of the final package. H.R. 2 moves Medicare away from a volume-based system towards one that rewards value and quality of care. The adoption of ICD-10 is essential for having the data necessary to accurately assess and measure value and quality.
The ICD-10 coding standard is a long-overdue improvement to the current ICD-9 coding system, and critical to advancing U.S. health care through improved quality measurement, population health management, public health surveillance, clinical research, and healthcare payment. We look forward to working with all healthcare stakeholders and Members of Congress to ensure that the entire healthcare industry is prepared for ICD-10 implementation on October 1, 2015.
