Beyer Medical Group Joins the Coalition for ICD-10
Washington, D.C. (February 9, 2015)—The Coalition for ICD-10, a broad-based healthcare industry advocacy group united in support of the ICD-10 coding standard, today announced the addition of Beyer Medical Group to its membership roster. The small, physician-owned family care practice of six providers serves a local population of 4,080 in rural Fredericktown, Missouri.
Beyer Medical Group completed its transition to ICD-10 in October 2013 and the Beyer physicians and staff have been documenting and coding in ICD-10 for the past year. The practice’s physicians, Edward Burke, M.D. and Phillip Beyer, D.O., and practice administrator, Deborah McEuen, will travel to Washington D.C. to speak about their experience at a congressional briefing hosted by the Coalition for ICD-10 on February 10, 1:30pm ET, at 2175 Rayburn House Office Building.
“We had prepared for challenges in our move to ICD-10, but in the end it was a normal day,” said Deborah McEuen of Beyer Medical Group. “We didn’t have to cut back on our patient schedule. No one needed extra help. Our doctors say that ICD-10 coding is just a matter of using common sense.”
Beyer Medical Group uses an electronic health record (EHR) designed for small physician practices. Along with most healthcare technology vendors, Beyer’s EHR vendor upgraded the practice to the ICD-10 enabled version of its software at no additional charge. The physician practice also credits its successful transition to education resources available from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Professional Association for Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM), and local associations.
